What's on my Cutting Table? A " Cut-Out" Jumpsuit!

While looking for a candidate for the PR vintage contest I found many retro patterns I want to tackle. A jumpsuit has been on my mind for some time now. I have several patterns new and old, but this "cut-out" jumpsuit from 1969 rises to the top.

I like View 4, the print with a contrast bias trim and View 3, the solid version with facings. After much thought, I have decided to go with a black solid for the body and am on the fence about bias trim or facings. I have chosen to use black linen for an understated look.

I like the idea of the print, but a print jumpsuit reminds me too much of my days as a professional clown (Yes, I used to be a clown, complete with a wooly red wig). I want to see how the solid version looks before getting too adventurous with a print.

Stay tuned to see how it all works out!

Happy Sewing,

  1. Professional clown?! Brilliant! Pictures please. You are braver then I my friend. Those cut outs are perfectly placed to show off my flabby bits. Can't wait to see the finish.

    1. Nine years on stages and for parties in high school and college! I even toured, oh the tales my red nose could tell! I don't have the self-confidence to share those photos, maybe some day...

I will see how brave I am with this dress. My flabby bits are usually in front, so I am hoping. This may be the first candidate for "Failure Friday!" ;p

I realized too late that I forgot the thread in your package! So sorry.

    2. I love the clown stint. So much more to learn about you-really great. No worries about the thread, I had some on hand and am having fun hand sewing it now, hopefully in time for "Success Saturday". ;)

  2. Wow I'm making a jump suit, but I simply love, love, love this vintage version. I can't wait to see how it comes out!
