While waiting to hear the results of the PR sewing Bee round 2 (I did not win, but did advance), I needed a palate cleanser. I recently got another order of some Ankara Dutch Wax fabric and decided to play around with it.
I used Simplicity 1664 to try the skirt in a length I do not normally wear.
The skirt has a high wide waistband that I liked.
I am glad I made this. It was fast to make and allowed me to test a style I normally would not wear. I do not think this is my style of skirt. I think a mod, shorter silhouette, or a floor length maxi is more flattering for me. I would have liked more fullness in the skirt and think pockets are never a bad idea in a skirt.

Do not get me wrong, I wore this all day and was pretty happy with it. I am looking forward to styling it differently to make it work in the future. This fabric comes in six yard lots; I did not mind using it as a muslin for this pattern. I have enough left to make something that is more "me" later.
Do you make tried and true garments or do you branch out to test new styles?
Happy Sewing,
Bianca
How did you not win?! Your entry was so good!! I'm glad you advanced, but I still advocate them declaring you the winner of the whole contest after that last entry. :) I like this skirt and I definitely get the need for a quick project after a really complicated one. I have a quick skirt to make next, too. I love this one and the sash/head wrap.
ReplyDeleteI know right!? I made a knock-out cardigan! I had high hopes until the last day when JEF submitted her project. I saw it and just said "DAMNIT!" :) I knew it was over then, her coat is SPECTACULAR! Please remind me next year that I am not cut out for competitions. This is emotionally draining.
DeleteThanks for your support and encouragement! Good luck in your contest.
Glad to see that you advanced--really wish you'd won. Love the skirt.. The sash makes it so versatile. I usually don't sew them. You've got me rethinking that.
ReplyDeleteThanks Catherine! I was hoping to win, but JEF's is awesome and well deserved. I never wear headwraps myself. My cousin asked me to make her some and I was testing the idea; I like it. Hope you try it and like it.
